Competitor Analysis Using Shipment Data

Sep 22, 2026

Shipment records are compiled from official trade documentation, which means a competitor’s import and export activity leaves a visible trail. Used well, that trail is a legitimate, powerful source of market intelligence.

Map their suppliers

Look up a competitor as a consignee and you will see who they buy from, how often, and in what quantity. That reveals their sourcing strategy — single-source or diversified, premium or low-cost origin — and can point you to the same (or better) suppliers.

Track their volume and momentum

Shipment frequency and weight over time show whether a competitor is scaling up, holding steady or pulling back. A sudden jump in imports often precedes a product push, while a decline can signal an opening.

Spot their markets

On the export side, a competitor’s consignees show which countries and customers they serve — and which they don’t. The markets they ignore are often your best opportunities.

Pick a country or commodity to start mapping the players in your space, or ask us for a custom competitor extract.
